Guide on How FRED Handles Polarization

In our optical setup, we begin with a polarizing beam splitter. Here's how FRED manages polarization:

  • Polarizing Beam Splitter: Light is directed to the beam splitter, where it's reflected towards a mirror.
  • Quarter Wave Plate: The light passes through a quarter wave plate before returning and striking an analysis surface.
  • Running a ray trace reveals the path of the rays through reflection, transmission via the wave plate, and back to the analysis surface.

To analyze polarized light behavior, follow these steps:

  • Check Polarization Spot Diagram: Examine the polarization spot diagram on the end ray surface.
  • Click "OK" to observe the behavior of polarized light.
  • Through these steps, FRED effectively manages and visualizes polarization behavior in optical systems. Experiment with different setups to gain deeper insights into polarized light phenomena.
