FRED Version 24.10 Release
CBS Europe is excited to announce the latest FRED Optical Engineering Software Release, packed with new features and enhancements designed to improve your optical design experience!
What’s New in FRED v.24.10?
Charting Tool
The charting system has been modernized, built on LightningChart technology, and is now complete, replacing the legacy charting framework. These enhancements make charting analyses faster, more responsive, and feature-rich, improving your overall workflow.
Key Updates in Charting:
- New Chart Navigator: Easily set custom max/min scaling and adjust text font sizes.
- Dynamic Rescaling: Adjust axes dynamically with simple click-and-drag gestures.
- Info Window Pop-Out: Access key chart metrics, such as total power and ray counts, without scrolling through the output window.
- Analysis Result Nodes (ARNs): Create ARNs directly from charts for better data integration.
- Dark Mode: Optional dark theme for a comfortable viewing experience.
General FRED Software Updates
Here’s what’s new:
- Retro-Reflection and Phase Conjugation: These options to convert any surface into a retro-reflector are now available in the Modifiers tab of the surface settings.
- 3D Polarization Support for Jones Matrix Coatings: The enhanced algorithm supports skew rays, improving the prior algorithm which generated correct results only in the case of normal incidence.
- Improved Ray Selection Filters:
- Comparator arguments are added and allow a significant reduction in the number of filters without reducing functionality.
- Support for parentheses allows grouping of complex conditions using AND/OR logic.
- New r-click menu items enable users to save and load ray filters and generate the equivalent scripting language for a filter operation or condition.
- A new filter for the Angle of Incidence/Exitance has been added for precise ray selection.
Additional Highlights
- Improved Single Ray Trace Dialog: Now more responsive with large ray sources.
- Color Correlated Temperature (CCT) has been integrated into the Color Image output and scripting language.
- MPC (GPU) traces now display a summary at the end, similar to CPU traces. This summary includes the total number of rays traced and the count of rays terminated for exceeding ray trace control limits.
- Enhanced Preferences: Default settings have been optimized to improve user experience and enable better hardware utilization.
- Unicode Support: Full support for non-English characters ensures FRED is ready for global translations.
- Added support for importing IES-TM-25 ray files.
- Modified several COM Automation server commands to utilize the more efficient Dual Interface implementation of the commands instead of the slower Dispatch Interface implementation.
- Added a user-settable COM Automation client wait timeout period (milliseconds) to the user preferences to allow for an automation server to complete a lengthy operation before FRED interrupts.
Miscellaneous Updates and Fixes
This release also includes several smaller updates and bug fixes to improve stability and usability. Check the Release Notes under the Help menu in FRED for a complete list.
