Guide on How to Create an Optical Source Using an IES File in FRED

To begin, ensure you have a spectrum assigned. If not, label and store it in the Spectra folder.

Then, follow these steps:

  • Right-click on "Optical Sources".
  • Select "Create New Source" and choose the desired source type.
  • Click "File" to import the IES file.
  • Rename the optical source as needed.
  • Choose the appropriate spectrum if multiple options are available.
  • Adjust the number of rays if necessary.
  • Click "Create Source" to finalize.
  • Check the 3D view to confirm the source placement.
  • Run a ray trace to verify the rays' behavior.
  • Optionally, examine the irradiance spread function for further analysis.

  • With these steps, you can effectively create an optical source using an IES file in FRED. If you have more specific questions regarding this process, feel free to reach out to our support email support@cbseu.com for assistance.
