Guide on How to View an Interference Pattern in FRED

To observe how FRED manages coherent light, we'll examine an interference pattern generated by a Mach-Zehnder interferometer. Follow these steps:

1.Optical Setup:

  • Begin by setting up your optical components, including the beam splitter and mirrors, as per your interferometer configuration.

2. Ray Trace:

  • Run a quick ray trace to visualize the behavior of the light within your optical setup.
3. Viewing the Interference Pattern:
  • To view the interference pattern, navigate to the "Irradiance Spread Function" option.
  • Double-click on the left window to enlarge the image for better visibility.
  • Confirm your selection by clicking "OK."
4. Analyzing the Pattern:
  • Observe the interference pattern displayed on the enlarged image.
  • You'll notice a fringe pattern indicative of the interference phenomenon produced by the Mach-Zehnder interferometer.

By following these steps, you can effectively view and analyze interference patterns in FRED. Experiment with different interferometer configurations to gain deeper insights into optical interference phenomena.
